 The
first trip of Ust-Kamenogorsk Hesed Faina to Semipalatinsk City in October 2001
made think about a lot of things. Jewish Community in the city is pretty big
and it keeps solicitously Jewish National tradition. There were two synagogues
before the Great October Revolution. Unfortunately, they were ruined in Soviet
times.
People, living there, not only just get help from Hesed but participate
in Jewish Renewal with a great enthusiasm. We could feel it at the moment we
entered The House of World Friendship where the Community gathered to light
first Hanukkah candle. The representatives from Ust-Kamenogorsk to celebrate
were welcomed, and concert program began. The Chairman of Jewish Community Leonid
Reznikov and Vladimir Lebedev director of Hesed faina made a welcoming speech
and lit Hanukkah candles. The concert program included almost all groups of
Ust-Kamenogorsk Community Center: Vocal group "Ester", children vocal
group "Feigale", Klezmer ensemble under the direction of Olga Traub,
Youth Vocal group. Semipalatinsk Jews prepared two items of the concert. After
the concert there was refreshment.
Guests came home late evening. The trip seemed easy and short
even the way was not fast. Everybody felt his belonging to Tradition, and the
Holiday of Light was kept in minds in souls.
