On 7 April 2001 Jewish Community of Astana City gathered in synagogue
where Rabbi Yuda Kubalkin performed the first Pesach Seder. In spite of late
evening, the members of the Community lighted candles according to tradition
like our ancestors did more than 3000 years ago. Next day 200 members of the
Community went to restaurant in the National Opera and Ballet Theatre named
after Kulyash Baiseitova. That big amount of people we have never had before.
The hall was decorated with Jewish symbolism, and the symbol of
Pesach - Keara was on each table.
Seder was started with candle lightening. Tatyana Alina the director
of Hesed told the history of the holiday - the history of Jewish emancipation
from slavery.
The secular part of Pesach with the concert started after 4 traditional
glasses of wine. The instrumental trio (students of Music Academy) of bayan,
accordion and the violin, the National Ensemble "Rovesnik" performed
dance "Khava Nagila" and pop dance "Mamba". The actress
of the Russian Drama Theatre performed a fragment of the story by Efraim Sevela
"Glasses". Yelena Maksnova read a fragment from her own poem "Address
to an American woman" and it was dedicated to the peace all over the world.
Maxim Turnov the alumni of Sunday school sang song in Hebrew, he was accompanied
by brass band. Pasternak and Petrov, the members of the Community read their
poems about the holiday.
Children and adults took part in the quiz and they got their prizes
for the knowledge of the history and National Tradition.
