More than a month in Petropavlovsk was a Jewish family The Shaffels, from the American state of Massachusetts. Only after one week after arrival they have found out about existence of the Jewish community in Petropavlovsk and have found Hesed. Elan, Marsha and two their small sons were very much surprised, that " at edge of light " is Jewish Community centre, attributes, books, and at last, Jews, which to that know a history and traditions! And then, daily visiting Hesed, The Shaffels were interested in all: children, pensioners, invalids; have visited some families, activities in community center, celebrated a holiday Rosh-h
a-Shana together with a community.
The first day of a holiday gathered in Hesed, where Marsha has conducted conversation with the members of a community and read some blessings, then, having dipped the apples in honey, amicably sung songs known for everybody " Eveinu shalom ", " Ine ma tov " etc. Marsha has told, that she is always amazed, that wherever she was, all Jews sing the same songs. And ceremony Tashlikh was executed on a coast of the river Ishim, where the group of volunteers has set off. The volunteer-interpreter Dasha Makarovskaya helped to overcome a language barrier. The visit of this family made very warm, pleasant impression. Leaving, they have presented the children's centre the magnificent books, collections of children's songs with the notes, thematic painting books to the Jewish holidays, beautiful candles for Avdala, Shabbat and much another.
