The Jewish Community of Atyrau is named "Aliya", which in Hebrew means "resurgence". On February 20 we had an organizational meeting. Now the resurged Community plays an active role in the life of the city.
Our first event was the bright and joyful Purim Feast. We did not have any money, but we had a great desire to gather together as our ancestors were gathering on this day for centuries after the Ester fast to commemorate the victory over Amalek descendant. And we decided that we would organize Purim! On February 28, Aturay Jews had a party - laid a festive table, read out Megilat Ester, sang songs, danced. It was so great to come together after a long break, follow the ancient traditions of our People, and test Aman ears.
At the same day, the 15th anniversary of the Peoples’ Assembly of Kazakhstan was observed in Ayrau. The Jewish Community has been working with the Assembly for all 15 years strengthening cooperation, cultural exchange and interethnic accord of all Kazakhstanis.
