The administrative center is Kokshetau
Kokshetau (former Kokchetav) is a railway junction with population
about 143 thousand people. The town was founded in 1824. It is an industrial
center - the main industrial projects are instrument-making plant, oxygen-respiratory
equipment plant, chemical factory, food and light industries. There is a pedagogical
institute, museum of history and local lore, dramatic theatre.
