In
October 2000 "Club-On-Wheels" started working in "Hesed Faina".
Leninogorsk City was the first city in East-Kazakhstani oblast involved in Jewish
Community life.
Everything started from celebrating Rosh-Ah-Shanah, which was visited
by a few Leninogorsk city inhabitants. It appeared to be about 15 Jews in that
city. Hesed employees decided to have out Shabbat there. They acquainted with
the Jewish population there, told them about some traditions of Jewish culture
and decided to meet in Leninogorsk City once a month. Jewish Community of the
City is getting stronger step by step, and local Jews, if it's possible, come
to Ust-Kamenogorsk themselves. They visit the library, where they read periodicals:
the newspapers: "Davar", "Shalom", magazines "Lekhaim",
"Fathers and Children", "Israel 2000". Also they participate
in "Hesed Faina" events.
Leninogorsk City inhabitants are planning to unite Jews by familiarization
with the national tradition and culture, and in the future to open Jewish Cultural
Center in Leninogorsk City based on Hesed. For that purpose they select the
most active people who really want to work in that field.
In October 2001 Hesed "Faina" employees went to Semipalatinsk
City. That trip made them think about many things; quite a lot Jews live in
the town (about 300) and their welfare standards sometimes are terrible. We
know a single father who has many children; this family lives in barrack and
sometime they do not have any money to buy coal for heating. In other family
both spouses are deaf, they have a scanty pension and problem to communicate
with other people.
These and other families need financial and moral support as well
meaning they need to know more about Jewish culture and Tradition. Hesed tries
to do for them both. Hanukkah, conducted in December in Semipalatinsk House
of World Friendship for Jewish Community, will be remembered by warm and friendly
atmosphere. Needy people got food packages and household sets.
