JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTERS

  Jewish Community - is a self-governing Jewish people living in a city or a settlement etc ("Short Jewish Encyclopedia ", Jerusalem, 1992,volume 6). In Soviet Union, especially in 1968, all pre-conditions for Jewish Community life were liquidated and Jewish people became victims of a cruel anti-Semitic state policy.

  The revival of Jewish Community life started between 1980 and 1990 with the beginning of perestroika in Soviet Union.

  The distinguishing feature of the modern Jewish Community life is voluntary membership. When Israel was created Jewish people found a new center of attraction, stimulating Jewish National feelings of all Jewish people all over the world.

  The aim of the Jewish Community Centers is to revive Jewish life: unite Jewish people of different age according to their interests, to organize different programs, traditional and professional holidays. For this purpose Community organizes kindergartens, schools, courses, student societies and clubs. For the last 10 years more than 160 libraries were open all over the world and more than 750 thousand Jewish books were sent to them.

  There are the following directions of Community Centers' activities:

  • Cultural values of Jewish nation (language, traditions, literature and art);
  • Clubs (family, women, children and youth);
  • Creative clubs (musical, theatrical etc);
  • Information clubs (edition of periodicals: newspapers, heralds and creation of virtual Jewish Community).
