JEWISH LIBRARY

The life of any Jewish Community is impossible without books. Books are the best way to know more about national tradition and culture.

Yevgeniya Karyakina is telling about new books in the library of Hesed Polina  Meetings with authors, topics about holidays and jubilees, presentations of new books - it is not the completed list of library activities in Jewish Community. Books sent from Jerusalem and local Kazakhstani newspapers (including "Davar Herald") increase the stocks of the libraries. The center of Library Programs is The Republican Jewish Library in Almaty. 10 regional Kazakhstani libraries order literature and periodical from it (it is more than a half of total number of Jewish libraries in Kazakhstan).

The readers are really interested in political and cultural news from Israel. Now they have an access to Internet to get a fresh informational digest from Israel, to find new literature and to keep in touch with the other libraries.

The library of Hesed Miriam, Karaganda City  The libraries within Kazakhstani Heseds and Community Centers have reading rooms; many of them have audio and video equipment. People gather to socialize and to share their impressions. There are exhibitions in the libraries: " The Memorable dates of the month" and "Literature soirees".

Now it is impossible to imagine the activity of the libraries without volunteers. Many of them not just help but coordinate the work of the local libraries. Only one of nine libraries has a staffer all the others- only volunteers.

Every library has Torah, Talmud and other Holy books
