THE JEWISH LIBRARY

  The number of books in Karaganda Jewish Library is more than 820. Basically, books came from Hesed Polina, Almaty and from the members of Karaganda Community; they present their own books to the library. There are about 100 readers in the library.

  Library service includes:

  • The library has a lot literature on Judaism and traditionRegular overviews and distribution of the periodical press ("Davar", "Lekhaim", "Shalom").
  • Conducting presentation of new books, round-tables and lectures. The next subjects were discussed this year:
    - "Relationships between different generations in Jewish family";
    - "Was the Lebanon War one of the just wars in the world".
    Also there were discussed the next articles: "That is Jews' fault again", "Yasir Arafat: the portrait of a peacekeeper and killer".
  • The next lectures were read:
    - About Yuliya Meltser (Stalin's daughter-in-law);
    - About Jewish symbolism;
    - About Levin (Gorkiy's physician);
    - About Hasid Choir; demonstration of video concert of Hasid Choir;
    - ðàññêàç ñ èëëþñòðàöèÿìè î ïîäâèãå Þäèôè;
    - Jewish composers of 60s and their songs.
  • Library Video salonThe library has got a video salon where the members of the Community can see Jewish movies and performances of the Jewish theatre "Shalom".
  • Visiting art exhibitions; members of the Community visited the Art Museum to see pictures and a concert.
  • Visiting the theatres. Thus, the clients saw the play "Loony Zhurden" by Mikhail Bulgakov in Drama Theatre named after Constantine Stanislavskiy.
