The presentation of new books held in February 20, 2001 in
Almaty Republican Jewish Library.
More than 50 people came to Hesed Polina for presentation
of two new books by Yuriy Gert, Kazakhstani writer living in Cleveland,
USA now. Irena Krichevskaya presented the autobiographical essay "Hellenes
and Israelites" and short stories "Lazarus and Vera" which
were given to Hesed by the author with dedicatory inscriptions. Gert's
friends shared their memories about him, his work in magazine "Prostor"
and his previous books.
At the same day there was a presentation of Hesed Library
Programs. There were guests from big Republin Libraries, President Archive
Library, representatives of mass media and city intelligentsia. Yevgeniya
Karyakina, the Head of Jewish Library told about the role books play in
the Jewish Community life. Thus, in the nearest future the Library will
get a special computer program to improve library service and to give
a chance to communicate with other bibliophiles via Internet. Her speech
was accompanied with the slides in a big screen.
