| In
late December 2002 a seminar for coordinators of religious programs took place
in Almaty. I, Oleg Bykovsky, was lucky to take part in it. During the seminar
I got acquainted almost with all coordinators of religious programs of Kazakhstan.
The
schedule was busy. We visited several lectures read by Rabbi Shlezinger. He told
about Giur (the way to Jewry) that has recently become fashionable, though people
often underestimate the responsibility of such act. Every participant had a home
assignment. And of course all of us, coordinators of religious programs, got a
lot of pleasure from meeting each other and Meir Shlezinger. I
took the chance to visit Almaty synagogue. I succeeded in talking to Rabbi Yeshaya
Kohen. That meeting gave me a new idea of what we, workers of religious programs,
do in our communities. The seminar was very useful. Our aim
is to help people to join to the Torah and religious canons. That is why we first
of all have to improve our own knowledge in order to become a reliable support
for the community in the hour of need.
