The administrative center is Aktobe City.
Aktuybinskaya oblast in the West of
the Republic of Kazakhstan, its territory is 300 thousand square kilometers.
The population is 730 thousand people, multinational: Kazakhs, Jews, Russians,
Germans, Tatars and others. The urban population is 54%. There are 7 cities,
3 urban-type communities in Aktuybunskaya oblast.
The leading field of agriculture is farming and animal breeding.
The main branches of industry are the following: metallurgy, chemical, light
and food industry. Also rare metal like nickel can be mined there.
The administrative center is Aktobe City (previously
it was Aktuybinsk and before 1891 - Aktyube). It is situated on Ilek River,
the population is 267 thousand people. The City was founded in 1869. There are
enterprises of light, food and chemical industry and agriculture machine industry,
X-ray equipment etc. there. Also it has 3 Universities, a theatre and 2 museums.
Jews live all over the territory of Aktuybinskaya
oblast, but most of them, about 1000 live in Aktobe City.
Since 1999 American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (AJJDC,
"Joint") cooperates with Aktobe
Jewish national organizations. Welfare Center "Hesed" sponsored by
"Joint" started working here in 2000.
