Jewish Cultural Center "Shalom" was founded in 1996 and
Jewish people had a chance since that to know more about Jewish culture.
But the month before that Mark Ioffe initiated a meeting in one
of the cafes of the city. That time Jewish Community had not been organized
yet; and there were about 100 people gathered in the cafe. People who met at
that meeting missed their national tradition very badly, and that was the point
to make the final decision: The Community should be organized! The first Board
consisted of 10 members, the most energetic and pushing. That is why everybody
had a special feeling while preparing to the first official holiday - Purim.
And Purim appeared to be unforgettable.
A lot of time passed since that. There are 750 people in the Community
now, taking into account that about 400 Aktobe City inhabitants immigrated to
Israel. There is Sunday school there and Art studio. With the help of "Mitsva"
Association a long before Hesed was established, there were welfare programs:
Help for old people, Home Care and Hot Meals.
