Jewish Community Center in Taraz is almost the youngest Community
Center in Kazakhstan. By the time it was established there were National Centers
of almost all Diasporas of Dzhambulskaya Oblast.
 On
28 December 1998 42 people gathered to establish Cultural Center where Jews
can communicate to each other, remember Jewish history and traditions.
Since that time the inhabitants of Merke and Lugovoy, Kurday and
Dzhanatas, Burnoaya and Rovnaya and Karatau have joined Taraz JCC. Now there
are 302 people in JCC and the number of people is continuing growing day by
day. Cultural Center is working on searching Jews and people willingly apply
to it. There are Hebrew courses, volunteers read lectures on Jewish history
and traditions, and the youngest members of the Community go to Sunday school,
other people study in Open University. During the last two years the Center
got into contacts with the representatives of other Cultural Centers.
 People
at the Center are trying to keep all Jewish traditions: they celebrate Shabbat
and other holidays. The members of the Community until now remember the celebration
of Purim, organized because of financial support of "Mitsva" Association
and "Joint". Is it necessary to add that the holiday was interesting
and everybody had a good time.
And yet they are very proud in Taraz of the event they invented
themselves. For the first time there was a Day of Widows in June 2000. There
were a lot of women with different and interesting lives; they were united by
one sorrow - they had lost their spouses.
