ROSH-HA-SHANNAH

"Leshana tova tikatevu vetihatenu!" wished the community members everybody on the day of Rosh-ha-Shannah celebration.

Well-dressed smiling Jews gathered to celebrate Rosh-ha-Shannah in the spacious Hesed hall. Volunteers and Hesed orchestra welcomed them. Bright posters, colored balloons and ribbons reflected the cheerful mood of the Astana Jewish community.

Three generations of the Jews gathered round the festive table. Everybody listened to the stories about Rosh-ha-Shannah traditions. A respected member of the community Elena Veizman lit up the candles. After that everybody tasted apples and honey. A fish's head was at the head of the table.

Representatives of local authorities wished the community many nice and warm words. Special attention was given to children. Songs and poems performed by them left nobody indifferent. An interesting quiz helped the children to demonstrate their knowledge of Rosh-ha-Shannah customs.

And of course there was dancing. Soon the whole audience joined the young dancers in freilechs. Shana Tova!
