When
it was announced that the next Shabbat would be celebrated in the open
air, some of the community members worried that it would be a long way
on a hot day. But when we got out of the bus and saw the picturesque riverbank,
we realized that everything would be fine.
The day was hot and sunny. Hesed staff took care of everything
and everybody. Those, for whom it was hard to sit on the ground, received
light armchairs.
After lighting Shabbat candles and saying the blessing over
wine and challah, competitions started. Both children and adults took
part in them with pleasure. The adults guessed Jewish melodies and answered
questions about the Torah.
Children
were most excited. There were special games and competitions for them
in the water. As a result both the children and the parents received a
charge of energy and good spirit before the next academic year.
The children worried so much for their grandparents and supported
them when they were unable to answer a quiz question. That is why nobody
was left without a present.
Our favorite music was playing the whole day. Everything was
thoroughly planned and thought through. Some of us danced, others listened
to the music, still others merely enjoyed the nature. That is the way
the children of the eternal nation should celebrate Shabbat.
