 On
July 11 representatives of Atyrau Jewish community met with the President of
"Mitsva" Association Alexandr Baron. The aim of his visit was acquaintance
with new trends of "Alia" Cultural Center's activities. During the
meeting the issues of building the community and developing welfare programs
were discussed.
 Members
and employees of "Alia" JCC presented the results of their work. The
pensioners' club "Shalom" and the youth club
"Freilechs" showed video records of their concerts on Jewish holidays.
Joyous Purimshpil and magnificent Pesach were the best evidences of faithfulness
of the Atyrau community to Jewish Tradition.
 After
watching the recordings, an interesting discussion began. Everybody could ask
Alexandr Baron their questions. And he also told the audience about the programs
of Hesed and Community Center: Homecare, Medical service, Mazal Tov, Library
etc.
 In
the evening Alexandr Baron was invited to Kabbalat Shabbat in "Alia"
JCC. Shabbat candles were lit, prayers over wine and challah were said. The
community has been gathering at that table every week for several years already.
"I'm glad to see and feel that the people round me understand
what "community" means. And I'm even more glad to realize that we
are a part of one big Jewish home!" Alexandr Baron said when leaving
Atyrau.
