two-hour chess plays have been conducted in "Rimon" JCC
for about a month. Those meetings became a part of the second annual chess tournament
for elderly people of Almaty. The program initiator was one of the Hesed "Polina"
clients Semyon Levenberg. The idea was supported by the Day Center and the Hesed
"Polina" club. Participants of the tournament were 10 people at the
age of 62 - 85 years.
Every
time sitting at a chess-board the amateur players did not hide
their excitement. Hesed "Polina" clients and "Rimon" JCC
members were attentively observing the game. During the first week each participant
got his fans and supporters. Interesting schemes, excitement, the joy of victory
and the people's shining eyes made everybody look forward to new tournaments.
Finally
the main moment came - awarding. The winner of the second annual chess
tournament was Efim Nedlin. The second and the third places were given to Semen
Levenberg and Vladimir Braslavsky. The guests and the jury thanked the participants
for the joy and excitements they gave, and for regenerating interest in the
sport called "Jewish" - chess.
