Moisey Aronovitch Gendelman is one of the elders of Kazakhstani
science. After coming from Odessa to found a new agricultural institute he remained
in Kazakhstan. Moisey Aronovitch's motto is sense of proportion in everything.
It always helped him to find and use the optimal decision.
Moisey was born on March 25, 1913 in Ukraine. He studied in heder
and after learning Tanah and Talmud began helping his father to translate his
talks to Hebrew. His neighbors praised him for his inquisitive mind and passion
for study.
The revolutions and the war affected his character and the choice
of his future profession. Painstaking work and self-education helped
him to easily graduate from a technical school and institute, and to get a degree
in agriculture.
As the WWII began he volunteered to the front and met the victory
as an officer. He scratched on the wall of Reichstag: "Moisey from Odessa
has come not to let you come to us again".
After the war Moisey occupied himself with development of science,
economics, and higher education in Ukraine and Kazakhstan. In 1972 the Regional
center of agricultural education was created, and till 1983 Moisey Aronovitch
was its chairman. It gradually turned to a big cultural and scientific center;
other institutes were guided by its experience. New chairs and postgraduate
courses opened.
Moisey Aronovitch was a tutor of 44 postgraduate students who got
degrees. Under his editorship and in co-authorship with other scientists
Gendelman published several textbooks, 230 articles, thirty monographs, and
many training appliances.
Modesty, honesty, unselfishness, accuracy, orator's talent, ability
to carefully listen and give a piece of advice - these are only some of
Gendelman's virtues. Dear Moisey Aronovitch, the Jews of Kazakhstan congratulate
you on your anniversary and wish you sound health for long years, creative work,
and joy from your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
