WOMEN'S CLUB OF HESED "FAINA"

Once or twice a month Hesed "Faina" is filled with women's laughter and the smell of national food - women's club gathers there. One of the "hostesses" presents a Jewish dish. There is stuffed fish, tsimes, forshmak, and liver pate. But the beginning of each meeting is given to literature club, music soirees, and lectures. The women find out many new interesting things.

In one of the meetings Tatyana Seidihmenova, senior lecturer in Eastern Kazakhstani State University told about life and works of a poetess Ruth Tamarina, who she was lucky to know. It was a fascinating story of Ruth's hard life and love that she described in her poems and prose.

Also there was a meeting dedicated Yanush Korchak (Genrih Goldshmidt), a teacher, writer, and doctor. Righteous gentile, he chose to die in a ghetto gas chamber together with children from an orphanage, than to leave them, though he had a chance.

Women's club was glad to hear about life of a great actress Faina Ranyevskaya.

There was a theme "Three Women" based on V.Lazaris's book about hard lives of revolutionists Armanda Knut, Mariya Vilbushevitch, and Margarita Tsarfati, Mussolini's lover.

Having visited her daughter in London, A.F.Surnina told many interesting things about the Jewish Museum of Judaism.

From Olga Tohtarova we found out stories about Igor Guberman, whose performance she visited being a student.

Besides, there are discussions about Jewish Tradition, particularly the role of a Jewish woman in the family and upbringing in accordance with the Torah.

After a subject is discussed, culinary part begins. The "author" tells about her dish, gives the receipt, and of course invites everybody to taste her masterpiece. And then there is tea-drinking and a table talk.

Lately a new program has begun in Hesed - music club leaded by a singer Tatyana Hardina. All these programs together with a weekly literature club, lessons of Jewish Tradition and history, and the Torah study make life of community members full of national self-identification - the thing that we have never had before and recently could only dream of!
