Jewish
home and Jewish family is the last stronghold of the Jewish Tradition. Even
non-religious Jews try to retain in their family the peculiarities of the Jewish
hearth.
In order to preserve and revive the Tradition, the Jewish community
of Ust-Kamenogorsk city organizes meetings in the family camp. This year it
was held in "Emerald" rest center - modern buildings with swimming-pool
and pavilions, surrounded with mountains and rivers.
Seven families went to the family camp. Their program included celebrations
of Shabbat and Havdala, reading the Torah. The coordinator of Hesed "Faina"
religious programs V.G. Fleitlich helped them to observe the ancient rituals.
The members of the youth camp Elena Nasyrova, Ksenya Novgorodtseva, Dima Varshavsky
and others assisted in organizing contests and quizzes.
The participants would remember the "Travelling along Jewish
Holidays Stations" game for a long time. The leaders told about the peculiarities
of each holiday, and the families travelled from one station to another in accordance
with their running schedules, and got scores.
Everybody liked Nina Krutova's lecture "From the History of
Jews in the Eastern Kazakhstan". Macabiada also was merry. Children, the
youth, and elderly members of the community took part in it.
When leaving "Emerald" the participants wrote on the "Ust-Kamenogorsk
Western Wall" their responses and remarks. They will help the organizers
to draw conclusions. The main disadvantage of the family camp was little time
the participants spent there!
