What
is a Jewish family? What makes it different from other families? First of all -
the unity of its members.
Today we do our best to revive the Jewish home and Jewish Tradition.
Hesed Rachel and Jewish Community Center in the town of Pavlodar also work at
it. Celebration of Shabbat, taking the family camp out to nature and Macabiada
help three generations to become closer to each other.
On the threshold of Pesach one more step towards reviving the Jewish
family was taken - the "Jewish Family" festival. Its program
included four competitions: wall-newspaper, story of a family,
Jewish dish, and music show.
The participants prepared thoroughly, drawing on their skills, fantasy,
and energy. Not all parents could come to the festival and children had to do
everything themselves. They presented coloured wall-newspapers
and family trees, recited poems about
their families and sang the hymn of Israel. The competitions reminded us how
important it was to support each other.
The festival was interesting and special. At the end the chairman
of Hesed Board Boris Uzdensky said:
"It is so difficult to compare them and choose one, because
every family has its own unique colour, the priceless seed that need to be cultivated
in each home".
And Faina Svechinskaya, the head of "Merkaz" Jewish cultural
center sadly pointed out:
"Our
children diligently strive to know more about the Tradition, while most of their
parents don't have a single minute for education. But the fact that the Jewish
culture has heirs is pleasant itself!"
Nobody was left without a present - the jury awarded each participant
with a present. And their culinary skills were evaluated by the whole community-family
during tea-drinking at the end of the festival.
There were no winners. We just made sure again that friendship,
unity and mutual aid in Jewish families always win.
