 The
last Sunday the Almaty Jewry gathered in the drama theatre for a big Hanukah
celebration. The concert was prepared by the Embassy of Israel, JAFI,
EAJC, Jewish Congress of Kazakhstan, "Mitsva" Association, "Rimon"
JCC, and Kazakhstan Jewish Center "Habad Lubavitch".
Old and new friends met in the lobby. Booklets with information
about Jewish organizations' activities were presented on tables along
the walls.

JCC's children's choir, dance group, and quizzes followed one another.
  A
cafe offered doughnuts and latkes. Near it the "Mitsva" Association
computer class presented slides about Hanukah history, customs, and culinary
receipts.
The festival gradually moved to the theatre hall. After official
congratulations Hanukah candles were lit. Then the concert began. The
drama theatre actors prepared a touching staging about Macabees' victory.
