A
meeting of the historical club took place in "Rimon" JCC the other
day. The head of the club Isaac Greenberg told the visitors that in the course
of revival of the Jewish communal life in Kazakhstan, their work "From
the history of Jews in Kazakhstan" is attracting more people.
In
spite of this fact, none of the reference books in Kazakhstan has information
about life of the Jewish Diaspora. But thanks to the historical club of Almaty
JCC with assistance of "Mitsva" Association, the Jewish Congress of
Kazakhstan, and support of AJJDC, two series "From the History of Jews
in Kazakhstan" were published in last two years. More and more people,
both Jews and Kazakhs, wish to participate in the process of reviving the history
of Jews in Kazakhstan. Employees of archives and museums, historians and private
collectors assist in compiling materials and interesting facts.
On
July 9 the third book "From the history of Jews in Kazakhstan" will
be presented. It includes reports made at the First International Historical
Conference "Jews in Kazakhstan: History, Religion, Culture" by representatives
of 5 countries: Israel, Russia, Kirgizstan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan.
In
conclusion Isaac Greenberg asked the participants to write about themselves,
their relatives and friends. Such information is not less important than archival
materials and documents. It is a bridge between future generations and their
ancestors. Maybe your families also have letters, documents and manuscripts
that can be useful for the historical club. We are glad with everybody who wants
to help restoring blank pages in the history of Jews in Kazakhstan.
