My vocation is photographing nature. That is why when working as a cameraman
on "Animals from the Bible" film for the German television in Israel
in 1998 I took a plenty of interesting pictures.
- What made you take a camera if you had a movie camera at your disposal?
- Dissatisfaction. I often felt that if I changed a shooting perspective,
the shots would be masterpieces. But director's opinion is the law! He saw it
in a different way.
- As I see, the exposition "Nature of the Promised Land" is made up
of the photos taken in 1998.
- It is. They are my favorite, but unfortunately they were unused till that
day. It took me long to find the audience that would be keen on those pictures.
But thanks G-d I met the President of the Association of Jewish
National Organizations "Mitsva" Alexander Baron. I think I don't need
to explain why he became interested in the photos.
- Because they are really interesting and talented.
- It is not for me to decide. But I believe that the Jews are curious to
see not the usual Israel with prayers by the Western Wall, Peys, and soldiers
in sunglasses, but Israel built on the dreams of the first kibbutzers. I mean
thick forests and revived fauna. By the way, do you know how it was done?
- I believe, the readers are eager to know about it from you.
- The desert and malarial swamps are not the best sights. Such "face"
was not appropriate for a young promising country. That is why the Israelis
opened the Torah and started reviving the Promised Land.
- They say it is most difficult to work with animals.
- It was easy to take pictures of Israeli animals. The Israelis are not used
to picking up flowers and hurting animals, that is why even a deer comes to
people and starts posturing. The only thing a photographer needs is not to miss
the moment.
I will be glad if my photos help Kazakhstani people to look at their motherland
anew.
