It's not a sin to laugh and this time people laughed a lot. Every
visitor of Library Literature Club brought a couple of anecdotes and jokes.
They discussed the theme "Jewish Humour and Humour of the Jews" in
a friendly atmosphere, over tea. The librarian of JCC Kostanay Alla Gafurova
made an interesting presentation.
The Jews liked jokes from the earliest times. Who doesn't know Arkady
Arkanov, Semyon Altov, Michail Zhvanetsky, Lion Izmaylov, Efim Shifrin, Klara
Novikova and other famous Russian humorists? The guests interrupted Alla Gafurova's
narration with their examples and jokes. Then there was a jolly "Meeting"
game, during which the visitors got acquainted and told about each other.
Why is an anecdote funny? It is almost impossible to explain. Most
Jewish jokes are short stories in which characters don't know or seem not to
know what effect their words and actions have. There are such cases even in
Talmud.
May the joke support the Jews in future.
