I came to the "Rimon" JCC a year ago. The time spent
within the community has changed me. I have learnt many things, met interesting
people, and found real friends, those who think and feel the same as I do.
My
arrival at the JCC was not accidental. For a long time I was trying to find
people of my age interested in the Jewish history and Tradition. Alex, a JCC
member from Israel offered me to join "Alef Daag" club. I agreed with
pleasure.
At the first meeting of the youth club I even was confused. However,
the friendly atmosphere and guys' kindness helped me to feel at ease. As I remember,
that day the youth discussed what happiness was. They shared their opinions
and experience. Boys and girls openly expressed their feelings and thoughts.
They resembled a big family that gathered after a long separation.
I should say, I got into "Rimon" in the right time -
by the beginning of the Community Festival of the Jewish Book. I was lucky to
learn about well-known Jewish writers and poets, to see pictures
and photos of famous painters and photographers. It was very interesting, because
many of them also contributed to the culture of Kazakhstan, and I felt proud
for my people.
That
summer I visited a synagogue for the first time. It was my strongest impression
in life; I can not describe it in words.
I took part in celebrating Jewish holidays - Rosh ha-Shannah,
Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Hanukah, Tu B'Shevat, Purim, Pesach, and Lag Ba Omer. Each
of them left a strong imprint on me. I did not only participated in Purimshpil
and Pesach Seder, but also learnt their history and practices.
All this year in the youth club can be compared with baby's first
steps. When a baby does not understand yet how it can walk, but is already trying
to run. I wish more guys come to our club, it is great to have a second FAMILY.
