Half a year passed and families from Karaganda, Petropavlovsk, and Almaty met again in "Ulan" rest home. This time representatives of Jewish communities from Shymkent and Pavlodar also joined them. As you see, family camps broaden both age and spatial limits!
The white sparkling snow sea met participants. Children and adults were enchanted by the beauty of winter mountains and kept strolling about snow-covered paths. Finally they gathered in the warm and cosy hall of the rest home.
The first lessons started soon after lunch. The participants read extracts from the Torah and works of Jewish writers, got acquainted with the history and Tradition of the Jews. "The Creative Children's Carnival" also was not left aside. Preparations took the participants much time, but those were pleasant activities.
Unfortunately, football and tennis turned to a faraway summer recollection. But the participants of the family camp did not despair. Sledges, skis, snow fortresses did not left them a free minute. The families also took to one more "winter" sport - writing songs.
On Sunday morning, January 5, the participants of the family camp visited "Rimon" JCC in Almaty. While the older generation was getting acquainted with JCC programs, the younger one occupied the computer class. Thanks to the special computer program, children's imagination, and the help of teacher Marianna Ryapolova the poems written by children were set to music. Composing melodies was an extremely interesting activity. Not all compositions of young participants' could be called "music", but of course they were real CREATIONS!
Organization of family camps became a good tradition for Kazakhstani Jews. The camp unites generations, cities, and people. The families look forward to new meetings, and we are glad that the community is getting bigger and stronger every year.
