"Arman"
cinema is one of the most prestigious movie theatres in Almaty. It was a real
pleasure for clients of Hesed "Polina" and "Rimon" JCC to
visit it. Many of them have not been to the cinema for 10-15 years -
it is too expensive for pensioners.
It was a big event in the framework of the Community Festival of
the Jewish Book OFEK - review and discussion of Roman Polanski's film "The
Pianist". The film was awarded with "Oskar" for the best directors'
work.
The picture is based on the historical events familiar to the director.
During the war he was in Krakow Ghetto, where his family died. Polanski was
saved by a miracle.
"The Pianist" is a story of Vladislav Stilman who survived
through Warsaw Ghetto. He was brilliantly played by Adrien Brody.
"The Pianist" is not an ordinary film about Holocaust,"
Roman Polanski said in his interview. "It is a history of survival,
a very optimistic story of a person saved by the art".
Excited, touched and silent people were leaving the cinema. The
film reminded many of them about their own lives.
