THE MOST JOYOUS HOLIDAY

Finally Purim has come - the festival of life for the Jews and shame for our enemies. The holiday dates back to the event in Ancient Persia, when Esther and Mordecai stood up to guileful Haman. Purim has come - the most joyous holiday, the festival of Purimshpil, the day of Tzedakah.

The Jewish community of Ust-Kamenogorsk began celebrating Purim in Hesed "Faina". As usual the history was told, and everytime Haman's name was mentioned everybody rattled the gragers.

Purimshpil was held in Ust-Kamenogorsk on March 18, and several days before a bus with purimshpilers and food-packages was sent to the Jews of Semipalatinsk. After 250 kilometers the guests opened the celebration.

There was a merry Purimshpil, songs in Hebrew sang by children's vocal bands "Feigaleh" and "Esther". The hosts also prepared several performances. In conclusion everybody was treated with traditional hamantashen. Tired, but glad guests went back to Ust-Kamenogorsk.

The celebration continued in the regional theatre of Ust-Kamenogorsk. By tradition the guests were given sweets "Mishlah manot".

A sketch prepared by the youth told about Ahashverosh and Haman, Esther and Mordecai. Vocal bands sang familiar favorite songs, children's dance club "Pirouette" showed bright dances. The guests could not help smiling when looking at the children in fancy dresses.

Merry people went out to the lobby, and the holiday went on. In the tense time we could not distract our mind from worries and sad thoughts. But though our cares remain, we still have hope in our souls.

We hope that the people that have endured so much grief lives and will live!
