NEW LIBRARY

A Jewish library has recently opened in Semipalatinsk. Since the very first day its two large light rooms became the center of Jewish communal life. The director of the Republican Jewish Library Eugenia Karyakina came to the opening ceremony. Her present for the "new-born" branch was 30 books, which were included in the library stock.

Together with Eugenia Karyakina representatives of Ust-Kamenogorsk community also came to the ceremony. They helped Eugenia to establish a contact with the Jews of the town and to conduct the opening ceremony.

After warm words and greetings Eugenia Karyakina told the audience about activities of the Hesed "Polina" in Almaty and other Kazakhstan Hasadim. She dwelled on the work of the Republican Jewish Library in Almaty, described its programs and new projects.

In her speech Eugenia emphasized the role of volunteers in program development. Five people expressed a desire to become new library volunteers.

"The moment the library received a support from volunteers was the real birth of the Jewish library in Semipalatinsk!" said Eugenia Karyakina.
