A
Jewish library has recently opened in Semipalatinsk. Since the very first day
its two large light rooms became the center of Jewish communal life. The director
of the Republican Jewish Library Eugenia Karyakina came to the opening ceremony.
Her present for the "new-born" branch was 30 books, which were included
in the library stock.
Together
with Eugenia Karyakina representatives of Ust-Kamenogorsk community also came
to the ceremony. They helped Eugenia to establish a contact with the Jews of
the town and to conduct the opening ceremony.
After
warm words and greetings Eugenia Karyakina told the audience about activities
of the Hesed "Polina" in Almaty and other Kazakhstan Hasadim. She
dwelled on the work of the Republican Jewish Library in Almaty, described its
programs and new projects.
In her speech Eugenia emphasized the role of volunteers in program
development. Five people expressed a desire to become new library volunteers.
"The moment the library received a support from volunteers
was the real birth of the Jewish library in Semipalatinsk!" said Eugenia
Karyakina.
