On February 14 Hesed "Kostanay" celebrated Shabbat. There
were two candlesticks with candles on the table, wine glass, two challahs covered
with a napkin, and sweet. Women were wearing scarves on their heads, men had
kippahs. Kabbalat Shabbat began with lighting candles by one of our women, and
then she said a blessing.
After the blessing over the candles Hesed director Peter Rubinshtein said blessings
over the wine and challah. Everybody raised a glass and got a piece of challah.
Then there were familiar favorite songs - "Lecha Dodi", "Shtei
Millim", "Shalom Aleichem" - and folk dances.During the
ceremony the guests' mood was really festive. Though we celebrate Shabbat every
week, community members are so excited as if it is their first Shabbat!Again
and again everybody feels connection with history and culture of the Jewish
people.
