 The
opening ceremony of the Jewish Community Center "Shemesh" was held
on June 6 in Karaganda. Honorary guests who visited the ceremony were the President
of "Mitsva" Association Alexander Baron, the head of Hesed "Polina"
Natalya Dorman, directors of Hasadim and JCC's in Petropavlovsk, Kokshetau,
Pavlodar, Ust-Kamenogorsk, and Astana. Before the opening, the
management of the Jewish community met a representative of the local authorities,
who greeted the participants.
More
than 300 members of the Jewish community of Karaganda visited the Theatre of
musical comedy that day, and what they saw there was beyond all their expectations.
An enchanting sight carried the audience to the fairy world of Jewish culture.
Professional play kept the spectators' attention for two hours.
According
to the audience's reaction, Karaganda citizens found their new favorites that
evening. The guests applauded to the children's center "Perurim",
youth club "Shatil", drama studio, women's and men's clubs. But the
real find was the first performance of a vocal quartet of "Shemesh"
JCC that presented rare Jewish and Yiddish songs. After the last sound of the
singers' voices faded, the guests were silent for a while. Tears stood in their
eyes.
