Uralsk Hesed began working in April 2001. It was that time
that Hesed Board decided that the community needed a good library. The
first books for the library were brought from Almaty. The library received
many other books as a gift from the community members.
Since the Hesed did not have its own premises (we used to
rent a room in the Arts school), the books were put into boxes, on chairs
and window-sills. Only a small part of them was presented to the readers.
But recently our dream has come true - the Hesed has purchased
roomy premises for its office. The best room was given to the library.
Cozy furniture and new shelves were arranged. Thanks to our tireless librarian
E.Pevtsova the books were placed in accordance with their subject-matters.
Now the readers are able to get acquainted with such areas of the Jewish
literature as:
- Judaism, the history of religion
- Jewish traditions
- The history of Israel
- Literature for children etc.
The Jewish library of Uralsk is looking forward to the new
readers. Welcome!
