According to the annual tradition, Volunteers' Day was presented
in the Hesed "Faina" on June 20.
Early
in the morning volunteers gathered at one of Ust-Kamenogorsk berths. The day
was nice - clear sky, blue waves, and kind atmosphere. A motor ship was already
waiting for us. It sailed up the river Irtysh, and the beautiful nature excited
us.
The ship moored to a quiet bay. Sweet scent of herbs and flowers,
playing volleyball and other games, looking down the steep. Women were wandering
and picking up medical herbs; men started cooking shaslik. Though the water
was cold, we bathed and then basked in the sun.
The women laid the table and called all 40 people. Simple game "Acquaintance"
turned to a great fun! Both young and elderly volunteers told something about
themselves, and the head of community programs Elena Levina added her witty
characteristics. There were volunteers from all Hesed and JCC programs: Torah
study, history and Tradition, medical program, winter relief etc.
We
are proud for each of our free-will assistants. They are not only an example
for the community, but also unique persons. Among them are writers, actors,
and other talented people.
Hesed director Vladimir Lebedev greeted the volunteers, thanked
everybody for their free-will work, and wished them to live till 120.
Unfortunately, the time came for the ship to go back. We took with
us the joy of that day and the beauty of Irtysh!
