FIRST ONLINE MEETING

On July 25 "Mitsva" Association conducted the first video web-conference dedicated to Dmitry Shchiglik's book "A Way to Zion". Its participants were: USA - the writer Dmitry Shchiglik, vice-President of the World Congress of Russian Jewry Mikhail Nemirovsky; Kazakhstan - the President of "Mitsva" Association Alexander Baron, the director of the "Hesed Polina" Natalya Dorman, representatives of the "Rimon" JCC youth and historical clubs, and the members of Almaty Jewish community. The meeting was conducted by the head of the "Rimon" JCC children and youth programs Larissa Poltavskaya.

Active conversation between two continents lasted for an hour. As Shchiglik said, in spite of thousands of kilometers he did not feel the problem of understanding.

"I don't know about you, but I'm even hot!", the writer smiled on that side of the ocean.

Dmitry Shchiglik answered many of our questions, commented on some chapters of his book, and listened to our remarks. Still, the Kazakhstani side had many unasked questions. The discussion will be continued in September during Dmitry Shchiglik's visit to Almaty.

"I would like to congratulate the Jewish community of Kazakhstan and "Mitsva" Association for initiating the new stage of communication between the communities worldwide!", said Mikhail Nemirovsky summing up the conference.

On initiative of Alexandr Baron the subject of the next video web conference will be creative activity of a famous writer Efraim Sevela. The meeting will be conducted by the writer; he is currently in Moscow. The contact with the Jewish community of New York also will not be broken. The Kazakhstani side has received a suggestion to prepare information on the life of the Jewish community in Kazakhstan.
