"Ruth" women's club has gone for a field seminar
to Turgen ravine in Zailiysky Alatau mountains. Thus it was "up to the
mark" in all senses. The subject of the seminar was "Autumn Holidays".
As
a good weather became settled in Almaty, the women's club decided to visit one
of the most beautiful places near Almaty - Turgen waterfalls. On the way
we visited an ostrich farm and decorated our hats with ostrich feathers. Then
we called on a trout farm. The trip was very informative. Our guide told us
about the history of Almaty, the Great Silk Way, and the story of a miraculous
spring near which we stopped to wash and take some healing water.
However,
those were not the only things the women's club was doing on their way. At the
breaks we discussed the plan of celebration of the Jewish holidays in autumn.
On of the club activists Irina Kopylenko reminded us about Rosh-ha-Shannah custom
to consider our acts and deeds during the past year, and try to understand and
correct our mistakes. Then in a ten-day-period between Rosh-ha-Shannah and Yom
Kippur we can revise our doings again without ignoring any of them, in order
to receive G-d's blessing on the Judgment Day.
Thanks
to that talk the women's club made not only a rise to the waterfalls, but also
a spiritual rise with the help of our friends. All Jews are responsible for
each other!
On our way back we were singing songs, and in the evening we decided
to make such seminars more often.
