Robert
Max and James Kerby - members of "Barbican Trio" - the
most interesting musical group on the British Isles became the guests
of the Jewish community of Kazakhstan.
Despite a lot of work, the musiciants worked as teachers
and gave a big concert in State Philarmony. The British guests spent 2
hours in "Poilna" Hesed and "Rimon" community center.Aleksandr
Baron,Kazakhstani Hasadim Board Chairman told the respectful guests about
life of the Jewish community and the support to it from the side of the
JDC.
Having looked around the Almaty community center and Hesed
with great interest, the guests got acquainted with welfare programs,
workers and volunteers. The musiciants said that they were glad to see
a developing, purposeful and actively working community in Kazakhstan.
Further the guests visited Jewish Republican library, which
has now become one of the largest Jewish libraries of the region. They
especially liked a collection of books on Jewish studies created by the
library with a help of the JDC, and constantly renewing audio collection
of Jewish classical, pop and ethnical music.
After the conversation in the library the guests visited
exhibition hall of "Mitsva" Association. There they saw old
photos from family albums of modern Almaty Jewish community members.
"We have just started to make the arrangements,"
explained Aleksandr Baron,Kazakhstani Hasadim Board Chairman. "But
judging by your reaction, the exhibition would be a success! Thanks for
your warmth that is in your eyes when you look at our grandmothers, uncles
and fathers".

"Sitting in this room I want to take a violin and
play", Robert Max shared his impressions. "During my
next visit to Almaty I would like to come here with my friends and give
a concert for your clients and friends".
"And our children - members of "Anah Nuha"
vocal-instrumental ensemble, youth from "Noar Hovshi" rock group,
old community members from "Golden Age" chorus and VIA "Roshem"
of Women's club will perform compositions from their repertoire,"
Aleksandr Baron offered the invitation with a pleasant smile on his
face.
