LESSONS OF HOLOCAUST

Almaty 17.06.04

The term "Holocaustosis" means burnt offering. In modern scientific literature it is used to define the Nazi policy in Germany aimed at persecution and annihilation of six million Jews from 1933 to 1945.

Permanent conflicts trouble the humanity. They can not be isolated by state borders. The time has come to realize what xenophobia and intolerance can result in.

The most effective way to prevent inter-ethnic conflicts is promotion of tolerance in the society. That is why it is the second time that "Tolerance - Lessons of Holocaust" seminar for secondary school teachers is held in Kazakhstan.

The seminar is presented by the Association of Jewish National Organizations of Kazakhstan "Mitsva" and Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. The project was supported by the Assembly of Kazakhstani People.

Holocaust is a Jewish tragedy, but it is a problem of all people. The seminar is meant to bring up responsible citizens open to religions, traditions, and cultures of other nations. Teenagers are involved in the seminar on purpose - they are easier influenced by extremist organizations and groups.

The project is meant to provide schoolchildren with information about the sources, development, and results of genocide, to promote ethnic and religious tolerance, responsibility, and mercy.
