 Yury
Gert is the author of such novels as "Labyrinth", "Verdict",
collections of stories "April First", "Sun and Cat"
etc. His books always touched the most urgent social problems. In recent
years his works were refularly published in the USA Russian press, as
well as in Russia, Kazakhstan, and Israel.
 Yesterday
the memorial evening "Our Friend Yury Gert" was held in "Rimon"
JCC. The meeting was prepared by the Jewish Congress of Kazakhstan, "Mitsva"
Association, Hesed "Polina" and State Lermontov Drama Theatre.
 The
meeting started with an exhibition of Gert's books from private collections.
Most of them were given to Almaty citizens by the author.
Poets, journalists, actors - those who knew Yury Gert
for many years and were his friends took part in the evening.
Though Yury left for the USA in 1991, he was homesick till
the end of his life, and often described the country in his books. Almaty
Jews keep the worthy son of Israel in their memory.
