The
Astana JCC "Shatil" children's club is meant for young members
of the Jewish community. With every lesson the children find out more
and more about the Jewish history and Tradition. During the winter holidays
the children visited the club for a week.
In
order not to let the week be wasted in vain, the JCC staff prepared an
interesting entertaining and teaching program. On the first day of January
14 club members visited a beautiful ice city on the left coast of Ishim
river. The "Shatil" members were delighted with snow figures
of fairy heroes and the skating-rink.
On
November 4 the children were told about Tu B'Shevat. They remembered the
holiday history and then discussed its customs. The children were offered
to start gathering date, orange, and lemon stones in order to plant them
along with the world Jewry.
Yesterday the "Shatil" club went on tour of Jewish
sites in Astana. One of the most impressive places was a building site
of a new synagogue.
That is the way the children spend their winter holidays -
participating in competitions, quizzes and applied arts.
