Samariy Lvovitch Lapan, the eldest member of the Jewish community in Karaganda
region, a veteran of Kazakhstani energy died when he was 97.
Samariy Lapan lived a long working life. Since early childhood,
living in Minsk, he decided to devote himself energy sphere. In 1930,
after graduation from Moscow University of Electric Machine Industry,
he was sent to the First Moscow Heat Station. Later he worked in Urals
at a Heat Station in Bereznyaki village. After 10 years spent in camps,
Samariy Lvovitch stayed in Zhezkazgan for the rest of his life.
Today name of that person is inseparably connected with the
development of Zhezkazgan energy sphere. Practically all the most important
energetic projects started to work because of Samariy Lapan's contribution.
Samariy Lvovitch was an author of a number of special articles
and about ten books. He was awarded an order "The sign of Honour",
medals "For working valour", "For valour labour",
honor orders and diplomas, he also was a member of scientific board of
Kazakh SSR Ferrous Ministry. An honorable citizen of Zhezkazgan.
Labour and professional work of Samariy Lapan, his lively
interest, deep and keen brains created a deserved glory and popularity
for him. A good memory of Samariy Lvovitch Lapan will stay forever in
hearts of members of Jewish community in Karaganda.
