A
JDC representative Prof. Aaron Weis has visited the Jewish community in
Karaganda. His main aim was to get acquainted with Hesed and JCC communal
and cultural programs.
Prof. Weis attended a Torah lesson for elder children conducted
by the religious program coordinator Alexander Abramovitch once a week.
At the same time a music lesson was held for the youngest children in
the next room.
An hour later "Perurim" children's center started
"Summer, Shalom!" festival. The children divided into teams
and participated in singing and acting competitions, and a culinary contest.
With the help of a librarian Larissa Brodskaya "Shatil" youth
club members gathered in the "Woman, Jew, Poet" literary club
in the afternoon.
In the evening Aaron Weis met with the Chairman of Hesed
Board Prof. Yosif Breido, who presented his newly published second collection
of poems to the guest. Then the JDC representative had time to talk to
the Jewish community of Karaganda.
Aaron Weis highly evaluated the work of Karaganda "Shemesh"
JCC and Hesed "Miriam".
