DINA RUBINA

Every meeting in the Hesed "Rachel" library literature club is a small word festival. That is why the leader Hannah Lobchenko arranges the meetings so, that both newcomers and haunters come back again and again.

The other day Hanah invited everybody to Dina Rubina's soiree. An exhibition of her books was prepared for the occasion. The meeting began with the words from Dina Rubina's biography:

"My first story was published in the "Yunost" magazine when I was sixteen. It was a short ironic story - that time I used to joke all the time. After that two stories more were published and then I was moved to the prose section and remained there till the very departure from the USSR. Of course, they didn't take my best things. Only short stories. But readers remembered me and waited for magazines with my things. So I left the country as rather a famous writer.
Thick magazines acknowledged me from the abroad; I guess, I had to leave only to get through to them. Though, I became a different writer in Israel, but it is another story."

The participants shared their opinions of Dina Rubina, quoted extracts. Her shining prose lighted the Hesed and inspired the youth.
