OFEK GOES ON

Petropavlovsk 14.10.04

  A trip to the most far-away part of the region - Timiryazevo village was organized in the framework of OFEK. Today 6 Jewish families live in that region. Svetlana Makarovskaya, a director of the community center; Galina Usatova, a children's program coordinator; a "Home care" service member and "Shalom" vocal group went for a trip to organize a holiday for citizens of Timiryazevo.

   Having taken books and all necessary things for exhibition "Jewish attributes", citizens of Petropavlovsk went off on October 7.

  First of all arrived Pertopavlovsk citizens got acquainted with recently appointed representatives of local power. Lubov Ganzha, deputy akim of Timiryazevo offered to held a holiday in the building of local school. The next day morning, having prepared a book exhibition in a chorographical school hall and decorated hall with Jewish attributes, Petropavlovsk citizens offered school children to become first guests of OFEK-2004.


   Svetlana Makarovskaya told children about life of the Jewish community of the region and about Book Festival history. Further Svetlana answered children's questions and held an interesting quiz for them. Children turned out to be well prepared, erudite and curious.

   At the end of the holiday "Shalom" vocal group performed number of Jewish songs.
