This year is a 100-th anniversary of the death day of Abai Kunanbaev, a great Kazakh enlightener and founder of Kazakh literature. This significant date was marked by a contest on creativity, held in literary memorial museum of Semipalatinsk named after Abai. Young poets of Kazakhstan participated in that contest.

   One of the prizes and money premium was given to Ilya Barokhovsky, a student of philological faculty of Semipalatinsk State University, a member of Semipalatinsk Jewish community. This was not his first victory. Several months ago Ilya took the first place in Kazakhstan in the contest on the best translation of poem from Hebrew. Recently a collection of his poems was published in a students' literary miscellany of Semipalatinsk State University.
