Dear
readers, we continue our section of the Taraz library literature club.
"Famous Jews" born in January are:
Haim Nahman Byalik - an outstanding Jewish poet. He was
one of those who appear during landmarks, and at the same time he remained
faithful to the traditions and history.
The
library staff also told about the initiator of Hebrew revival - Elizer
Ben Yehuda.
His family was the first to begin speaking Hebrew in Palestine.
Thanks to Ben Yehuda Hebrew came to be used in Jerusalem schools again.
Ben
Yehuda persuaded High Commissioner of Great Britain to declare Hebrew
one of the three official languages in Palestine, along with Arabic and
English.
Thus, his appeal - "Yehudi, daber Ivrit!" ("Jew,
speak Hebrew!") was fulfilled. And we fulfill the community's wish
to know more about the famous people in the Jewish history.
