 The
Taraz Jewish Library staff has presented a lecture on the topic "Famous
Jews". The meeting was devoted to the well-known USSR physicist-theorist,
Nobel Prize winner Lev Landau.
Landau published his first work on physics when he was 18
years old. He received brilliant education and continued it abroad.
In 1931 Lev Landau returned to the USSR and continued working in St-Petersburg,
and then in Moscow. Later he wrote a "Course in Theoretical Physics"
still used by physicians in many countries.
Landau received many international honours for his contributions.
He was a member of several foreign Academies. He died on April 1, 1968
in Moscow.
