DEAR SVETLANA NEZHINSKAYA

Almaty 15.07.2005

Svetlana Nezhinskaya became a volunteer of the Jewish Community Center abut five years ago, and she was never disappointed about that. The story began when Svetlana took her neighbor in need to the Hesed. Natalya Dorman, the director of Hesed "Polina" offered Svetlana to fill in the form too, but she replied that her need of help wasn't so urgent.

"So what? Maybe the time will come that we need you" Natalya Dorman answered.

Those words proved prophetic. At present Svetlana Nezhinskaya is a volunteer in the Republican Jewish Library. Being a journalist she chose the library at once.

Svetlana was born in 1958 in Ukraine. In 1940 just before the WWII her father moved to Kazakhstan for work. As the war started the family wouldn't return to Ukraine. Svetlana graduated from the Kazakh State University, the Faculty of Journalism. Because the family was big she had to work during her studies, so she became a reporter for "Uchitel Kazakhstana" ("Kazakhstani Teacher") newspaper. After graduation she continued working in the newspaper for sixteen years.

Svetlana Nezhinskaya often arranges and holds library literature clubs for members of the library, Warm Home, and Day Center. She also takes active part in the Family Club. The sphere of her activities is growing. She has been elected to the Club board, and now she scripts for communal events and acts as a production director for "Shalom" Club. Svetlana remains a permanent presenter of festive concerts in "Rimon" JCC.
