THEATRES BECAME ALL THE RANGE

Almaty 27.06.2005

The last literary hall "Oeuvre meetings" held in Almaty Jewish community center, was an unusual one. Though the hall’s hostess Evgeniya Zeif carefully invited different representatives of Almaty creative society, only … three persons came to see young and talented Ilya Odegov. Possibly, hot weather played a significant role. It was good that nobody got confused of that situation and all the comers felt themselves fine. The discussion turned to be warm. Ilya wasn’t confused at all, he was calm and dignified. By his own admission, in his oeuvre - let it be music or poetry and prose - Ilya tries not to gain a recognition from the side of people, but to express his thoughts, feelings, to play with words and sounds.

"And if somebody likes the things I do - it’s wonderful!" he said.

Ilya has already visited "Rimon" JCC. That time he presented his first book - a novel-song "The Sound, the Sun arises with". And this time Evgeniya decided to pay attention to Ilya’s plays. His is an author of already two plays put on a stage. One of them- "A wheel" - was created in a cooperation with one of Ilya’s comrades and put on a stage of the Young Spectator Theatre several years ago during "Transad" theatrical festival. The second play, fully came from Ilya’s pen, was materialized by "ARTiSHOCK" theatre in the beginning of the current year. By the way, the play called "Hope is hidden in a deceit" was marked by the audience as a very successful.

Ilya told about the present situation with a modern Kazakhstani theatre.

"It so happened that the whole theatrical power of our country is concentrated in Almaty", Ilya started his narration. "Theatre renews all around the world, not only in Almaty. It became all the rage to go to the Theater with friends, family members. It’s good that theatres of different countries come to our city". Today is the final day of a week of "ARTiSHOCK-2005" Modern Theatre. In the framework of it a French film director Kristof Fetrie demonstrated its play "Worlds in the subways", as well as Egyptian film director Honi Gonem - his play "Kaspar". The appearance of the African film producer was alike the pharaoh’s - plastic figure, charisma. One could notice the influence of the European dramatic art, though there were ethnic moments and legends of the Ancient Egypt."

After Ilya’s speech, Evgeniya Zeif delivered a short lecture about the Jewish dramatic art. The guests learnt that the Jewish Theatre emerged on the square mostly due to a merry Purim holiday, which is celebrated in carnival dresses. In Purim people always put short plays on a stage. In the end of a really interesting discussion Ilya presented all the guests with a book with signature.
